Model 10VRK6 and
10VRK6E VGA Retrofit Kit
Instruction Sheet
Part No. 92097
[version SB.3]
THE PROCEDURE EXPLAINED BELOW ALLOWS YOU TO INSTALL
THE "HIGH RESOLUTION" ("H") OPTION IN A MODEL 10K3A, 10K6A,
or 10K6A(E) MAINFRAME.
FOR A DESCRIPTION OF THE "H" OPTION, SEE THE
SYSTEM 10
GUIDEBOOK "H" (VGA) OPTION SUPPLEMENT
.
Your VGA Retrofit Kit consists of
a Model 10BVS98 VGA Video Signal Card (this is to replace your present 10BVS90 or 10BVS95).
a special "H" Option Video Backplane board attached to a sheet-metal Video Connector Panel
appropriate to your mainframe model.
KEEP THE 10BVS98 CARD IN ITS ANTISTATIC BAG UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO INSTALL IT.
1. TURN OFF YOUR MAINFRAME AND DISCONNECT THE POWER CORD. Detach all other cables
that might be connected to the rear of the unit.
2. Remove the FRONT BEZEL covering the mainframe's B-CARD RACK by gently prying it off its
"Snap-On Posts."
3. IMPORTANT: TAKE NOTE OF THE EXACT SLOT LOCATION OF EACH INSTALLED "V" CARD
(the Video Text Card (10BVT60 or 10BVT65), the Video Signal Card (10BVS90 or 10BVS95), and
any other optional video cards (including the Models 10VFO132, 10VGM500, and 10VMO500)).
IF A "V" CARD IS PUT BACK IN THE WRONG SLOT, SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE UNIT COULD
RESULT.
4. Remove all of the "V" CARDS. For a Model 10K3A or 10K6A, you will have to remove the front
VIDEO GUARD PANEL to access all V CARDS to the left of the 10BVT60/65, which occupies B Slot
No. 1. The guard panel is shown in Fig. 1, below. See Section 3.C.1 of the
System 10 Guidebook
for all V-CARD locations. See Appendix B of the
Guidebook
for instructions on card insertion and
removal.

---------- IMPORTANT ----------
For optimum functioning of the "H" option, a special jumper wire should be installed
on the DataPAC's Model 10BVT60 Video Text Card or Model 10BVT65
Touchscreen Video Text Card. The purpose of the jumper is to reduce the 5-volt
drop across the card, and thus to minimize the effects of stray voltage noise on
displayed video pages. THE JUMPER IS ALREADY PRESENT ON ALL 10BVT60
CARDS OF HARDWARE VERSION 10.1 OR HIGHER, AND ON ALL 10BVT65
CARDS OF HARDWARE VERSION 3.3 OR HIGHER. If you current 10BVT60 or
10BVT65 is an earlier version, you can send it to Daytronic, shipping prepaid, for
free installation of the jumper wire. If you wish to install the jumper yourself, you
should call Daytronic Customer Support Services at
(937) 293-2566
for complete instructions.
5. FOR A MODEL 10K6A(E), YOU MAY SKIP THIS STEP AND PROCEED TO STEP 6.
While the 10K3A's or 10K6A's VIDEO GUARD PANEL is outside the mainframe, you should use a
hammer and centerpunch to knock out the hex-head STANDOFF POST mounted in the upper right-
hand corner of the panel (see Fig. 1, below). Lay the panel on a benchtop or other hard surface,
front side down. The side with the standoffs should overhang the edge of the bench just enough to
let the post be driven out by striking it forcefully from the rear of the panel.
The reason for removing the post (which is not a necessary part of the 10K3A or 10K6A) is that it
would make contact with an IC component of the 10BVS98 when this board is inserted in the
mainframe. Note that for recently produced 10K3A and 10K6A mainframes, the post has already
been removed.
6. Remove the mainframe's present VIDEO CONNECTOR PANEL and the attached VIDEO
BACKPLANE from the rear of the mainframe (there is a screw in each corner of this plate).
7. Using the same screws, install the new VIDEO CONNECTOR PANEL and BACKPLANE supplied
with your Retrofit Kit.
8. Take the Model 10BVS98 VGA Video Signal Card from its bag and insert it in the slot previously
occupied by the mainframe's 10BVS90 or 10BVS95 Card (again, see Section 2.C.1 for required V-
CARD placement).
9. Return each of your mainframe's other "V" CARDS
to the slot which it previously occupied.
REMEMBER: PLACING A "V" CARD IN THE WRONG SLOT MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE
INSTRUMENT.
10. Remount the VIDEO GUARD PANEL, if it has been removed (10K3A, 10K6A). Remount the FRONT
BEZEL, reconnect the power cord, and reactivate the mainframe. NOTE: Depending on your
10BVT60 or 10BVT65 software version, a random screen pattern may appear at the bottom of the
powerup page during the initial diagnostic check. This will disappear as soon as the "sign-on" video
page is displayed.

top standoff
post by striking
it from the rear
of the panel.
