INTRODUCTION
The name DI box comes from direct injecon box, that means exactly: To inject a signal directly or take an
audio signal from the source and send it directly to a mixer console or recorder. Direct boxes perform several
important funcons: they are designed as impedance matching and signal balancing devices. This means that
they take the high impedance of a guitar or keyboard and ‘transform’ it to the low impedance used in balanced
sound systems. Balanced signals inherently cancel noise and, due to their lower impedance, are capable of very
long cable runs. Balanced signals are the norm in professional recording, broadcast and live sound. By properly
matching the impedance you will enjoy beer sound, less noise and an extended frequency response.
DIRECT100P is a passive direct box with transformer and does not require any external power such as phantom
or baeries to work. Just plug-in and play!
The beauty of a transformer is that there is no electrical connecon between the primary and the secondary.
The signal is ‘transformed’ from electrical energy to magnec, then back to electrical; in eect, a ‘magnec
bridge’. This provides two huge benets: with no electrical path, ground loops are eliminated and a tremendous
reducon in common-mode noise is possible. The DIRECT100P features a mic level balanced output XLR
male connector and a high impedance (hi-z) jack input. To obtain both these features the transform rao of
DIRECT100P is 20:1, so DIRECT100P has an inseron loss of 26 dB without any PAD switch depressed.
CONTROLS AND AUDIO CONNECTION
1. INPUT - unbalanced JACK
Connect the source instrument to this 1/4” jack to receive the signal. The input impedance depends on PAD
seng: > 250 Kohm with no pad, 47 Kohm with pad inseron.
2. LINK - unbalanced JACK
Connect this 1/4” jack to the input of the backline instrument or monitor amplier. It is directly connected at
the input. NOTE: If you are using a tube amplier power output (4, 8 or 16 ohm), you must connect always a
speaker of matched impedance in parallel, also using the LINK jack on DIRECT100P; for these connecons you
have to use always jack-jack power cables avoiding jack-jack signal cables.
3. PAD - switch
The pad switch reduces the input signal to the circuit to ensure a clean and distoron-free signal.
Three steps are possible: 0, -20, -40 dB. Always use as lile as aenuaon as possible to get the best possible
signal with reference to the noise oor. The highest aenuaons make possible to connect the DIRECT100P to
any amplier output without saturate the mic input of your mixer desk.
4. GND LIFT - switch
Use the GND LIFT switch to either connect the ground pin of input and output or keep them completely
separated. Depending on the grounding of the connected devices linking or disconnecng will reduce hum
and buzz noises and prevent ground loops. NOTE: Always make sure the GND LIFT is pressed (no ground link)
when connecng to speaker terminals, this prevents accidental short-circuing of the amplier output. Also
make sure the TIP of the input jack is connected to the red wire and that the metal chassis of the DIRECT100P
has no contact with other equipment.
5. BAL OUTPUT - male XLR
This male XLR output connector is the balanced microphone level output of the DI and it is wired with pin-1
ground, pin-2 hot and pin-3 cold.

INTRODUZIONE
La DI box (direct injecon box leeralmente “scatola per l’iniezione direa”) preleva un segnale audio da una
sorgente e lo invia direamente al mixer. La DI box adempie a due importan funzioni: adaare l’impedenza
e bilanciare il segnale, prendendo l’uscita ad alta impedenza di una chitarra o una tasera e “trasformarla” in
una a bassa impedenza adaa ad essere usata nei sistemi di amplicazione bilancia professionali. Abbassando
l’impedenza e bilanciando il segnale si oene una maggiore immunità dal rumore e la possibilità di percorrere
lunghe distanze senza degrado del segnale. I segnali bilancia sono usa di norma in tue la applicazioni
professionali quali studi di registazione, studi televisivi, studi radiofonici e in parcolare sui palchi dei concer.
In praca si oerrà un suono migliore, minore rumore e una risposta in frequenza estesa.
DIRECT100P è una DI box passiva dotata di trasformatore e non richiede nessuna alimentazione esterna baeria
o phantom per funzionare. Basta solo conneerla e suonare!
Il vantaggio del trasformatore è che non c’è connessione elerica tra primario e secondario. Il segnale è
“trasformato” da elerico a magneco, e quindi di nuovo in elerico, in praca un “ponte magneco”. Tuo ciò
comporta due vantaggi: in assenza di contao elerico i loop di massa sono elimina e si oene la massima
riduzione di rumore in modo comune. La DIRECT100P dispone di una uscita bilanciata XLR a livello microfonico
e di un ingresso jack ad alta impedenza (hi-z). Per oenere ques risulta il rapporto di trasformazione è 20:1,
cosicché la DIRECT100P ha una perdita di inserzione di 26 dB senza PAD premu.
CONTROLLI E CONNESSIONI AUDIO
1. INPUT - JACK sbilanciato o XLR femmina
Conneere lo strumento sorgente a questo jack per ricevere il segnale. L’impedenza di ingresso dipende dalla
impostazione del PAD: > 250 Kohm senza PAD, 47 Kohm con l’inserimento del PAD.
2. LINK - JACK sbilanciato
Conneere questo jack all’ingresso dell’amplicatore dello strumento o del monitor amplicato del musicista.
Esso è connesso direamente all’ingresso INPUT. NOTA: Se si sta usando l’uscita amplicata di un amplicatore
a valvole (4, 8 o 16 ohm), si deve sempre conneere un altoparlante della stessa impedenza in parallelo, anche
usando il jack di LINK della DIRECT100P; per ques collegamen si devono usare sempre cavi di potenza jack-
jack ed evitare l’uso di cavi jack-jack di segnale.
3. PAD - interruore
Il PAD aenua il segnale d’ingresso assicurando ai circui interni un segnale pulito e non distorto.
Sono possibili due combinazioni: 0, -20 e -40 dB. Usare sempre la minore aenuazione possibile per avere il
migliore rapporto segnale/rumore. Impostando le aenuazioni maggiori è possibile conneere la DIRECT100P
a qualsiasi uscita di amplicatore senza saturare l’ingresso microfonico del mixer.
4. GND LIFT - interruore
Usare il tasto GND LIFT per conneere o disconneere la massa tra ingresso e uscita. A seconda degli apparecchi
connessi, collegando o scollegando la massa della DI box si può eliminare o ridurre il ronzio. NOTA: Assicurarsi
sempre che il tasto GND LIFT sia premuto (nessun collegamento di massa) quando l’ingresso della DI box è
collegata ai terminali di un altoparlante, questo previene corto circui accidentali all’uscita dell’amplicatore.
Assicurarsi inoltre che alla punta del jack di ingresso sia connessa al lo rosso e che il telaio in metallo della
DIRECT100P non sia a contao con altri apparecchi.
5. BAL OUTPUT - XLR maschio
Questo conneore XLR maschio è l’uscita bilanciata a livello microfonico della DI box. Le connessioni sono pin-1
massa, pin-2 posivo e pin-3 negavo.
