INTRODUCTION
A thermostatis adevice thatis used to switch the heating
system in yourhomeonand off as needed. It worksbysensing
the air temperature and switching on the heating when the air
temperature fallsbelowthe thermostatsetting, andswitching
it off oncethe set temperature has been reached.
The ERT30RT from Salus Controls is a stylish and accurate digital
roomthermostatthat is fittedwithalarge easyto read Liquid
CrystalDisplay(LCD). The ERT30RThasbeenspecifically
designed to be used with under floor heating systems.
Abacklight andfrost function addto thefeaturesofthe
ERT30RT.
FEATURES
• Remote/Floor temperature input
• Valve Protection
• Large, easy to read LCDwithorange Backlight
• Stylish casing
• User friendly
• Frost protection
• Reset button
• Willoperate up to 5thermal actuators
• Selectable Set Back2ºC/ 4ºC
Installation
Please read the importantsafety information atthe startofthis
manual before you begin to installthe device. The idealposition
to locate theERT30RT digitalroom thermostat isabout 1.5m
abovefloorlevel.Itshould be mounted in alocation where the
thermostat is easily accessible, reasonablylit and free from
extremes of temperature. Loosen thescrew which islocatedon
the bottom of thehousing. Open thehousing by pulling the
bottom ofthe cover then lift off.Now mount thebase plate
with thesupplied screws firmlyto thewall oronto theflush-
mounted wallbox.
ERT30RT not only works by itself, i.e. dip switchsetting, but
also canbe controlled by two controlmethods, i.e. Night
Setback by clock, and Communciation Signal from ERT52 via
communication terminal.
Theelectricalconnectionstothe ERT30RTare madeto the
internal terminal strips.Connectiondetailsareshown below-
no Earth connection is required for the correctand safe
operation of the thermostatasthe deviceis double insulated.

• Optimumcablesizeforinstallationis1.5squaremm;wiring
colours should be inaccordance withthe current requirements
of the IEE WiringRegulations.
•Allwiring connectionsshould be securely made, and befirmly
terminated within each of the terminal screwclamps.
Do notrestore the mainssupplyto the systemuntil allassociated
itemsare fully installed.
NOTE: Allelectrical installation workshould be carried outby a
suitablyqualifiedElectricianor othercompetentperson.Ifyou
arenot sure how to install this thermostat consult eitherwitha
qualified electrician,heating engineeroryour boiler/heating
system supplier for adviceon how tocontinue.
Donotremove or refit theERT30RT wiringwithout the

detects afaultwith the floor sensor anerror code willbe shown
on the display. The displaywillalternate betweenthe error code
and the currentroom temperature.
Display Description
Normaloperation – room temperature displayed, backlight off
Error E1 – over floor temperature limit, backlight off
Error E2 – floor sensor opencircuit,backlightflashes
Error E3 – floor sensor shortcircuit, backlightflashes
When the sensor fault isrepaired, the thermostatwill return to
NORMAL mode and displaythe current roomtemperature.
OTHER FUNCTIONSANDCONTROLS
Backlight
The backlight of theERT30RT isswitchedonautomatically
whenever any ofthe keysare pressed. The backlightwill remain
illuminated for a few seconds after the last key press. If the
room temperatureis higherthan35°C,the backlightwillblink
onandoff;thisblinkingeffectalsohappens ifthethermostat
senses that the floor sensor is disconnected orfaulty.
The backlightwillnot illuminateif there isno mains supplyto
the controller.

Setback Temperature
T heERT30RThasaprovisiontosetasetbacktemperature;
Temperature is reduced by selectable2ºC / 4ºC in heating mode;
or increased by selectable 2ºC/ 4ºCincooling mode.
TheSetback featurewill onlyoperate ifaconnection ismade
to the Setbackterminal. If the terminalstate is HIGH(above
175V AC), the Crescentindicator willbe shown onthe display,
and the Setback temperature willbe applied.
Software Protection
The ERT30RT has several protection features built in to the
software. These featuresare:
•The heat controlwillbe automatically turned offif the room
temperature is higher than35°C, or if thefloorsensor is
faulty.
•In cool mode, inbuilt short cycle protection prevents against
rapidswitching of the outputrelay: the minimumdelay
betweenthe relay being on and offis 3minutes.
•When operating in InternalAir Sensor + Floor Sensormode,
the ERT30RTwillturn offthe heatifthe floor temperature is
greater than the High Limit setting (topreventany damage
to the floor surface). Ifthe floortemperatureisbelow the
LowLimit setting, then the heat will beturnedon (tohelp
dry the floor, in for example abathroom). IftheERT30RT is
operating in cool mode, then the cooling willbeturnedoff
if the floor temperature drops below the LowLimit.
Temperaturesoutside the OperatingRange
Temperatures exceeding the measurable range willbe indicated
by ‘HI’ for temperatures above the upper limit, and ‘LO’ for
temperatures below the lower limit, as shown in the images
below:
ValveProtection Function
The Valve Protection (VP) function is providedas a way toavoid
the control valvefrom sticking orseizing when not beingused
for long periods (e.g. during the summer).
ThisfunctionisenabledbysettingtheValveProtection DIP
switch to the enable position. Whenenabled, the VP function
will turnon the thermostat outputto operate the controlvalve
fora periodof 5minuteseveryweek:theVP functionwillstill
operate evenifthe roomtemperature ishigherthan35°C,orif
the sensorsare faulty or outside ofthehigh orlowlimits.
ENERGY TIP
One way to set and use your room thermostat is to find the
lowest temperature setting thatyou arecomfortable with, and
then leave it set at this temperature.Youcan dothis by setting
the roomthermostatto alow temperature, (for example 17°C)
and thenincreasing thesettingby onedegree eachday until
you arecomfortable with theroom temperature- you won’t
have toadjust thethermostat further, asadjustment above this
setting willwaste energy: a 1°Cincrease in temperature isequal
to 3% of your heating costs.
Maintenance
The ERT30RTdigitalroom thermostatrequiresno special
maintenance. Periodically,theouter casing canbewiped clean
using a dry cloth(please DO NOTuse solvents,polishes,
detergentsor abrasive cleaners, asthese can damage the
thermostat).
There are no user serviceable partswithinthe unit; any servicing
orrepairsshould only becarriedout bySalus Controls ortheir
appointed agents.
ShouldtheERT30RT roomthermostatfailtofunction correctly,
check:
•MainssupplytotheERT30RT isswitched on.
•Heating and Cooling system is switched on.
•If the ERT30RT is stillnotfunctioningcorrectly,
press the Reset Button.
