Repainting Homan Standard Paint

Check with the paint manufacturer to insure the paint you are applying is compatible

with the paint on the Homan product.

Homan uses the following TGIC polyester powder coating nishes on standard

catalog items:

1. ANSI 61 Gray

2. RAL 7035

3. White

Refer to homanonline.com for the specic paint nish of the product that you

propose to repaint. When in doubt, consult your local Homan distributor.

IMPORTANT: For best adhesion results, correct surface preparation before

repainting is essential.

GENERAL: All Homan TGIC polyester powder coated nishes can be repainted.

IMPORTANT: For best renishing results, always follow the specic instructions

provided by your paint manufacturer.

1. Surface Preparation: Generally the following surface preparation can be used.

A. Thoroughly sand all enclosure surfaces with 180 grit sandpaper. If sanding marks

are objectionable, nish sanding with 220 or 240 grit sandpaper.

B. Wet wipe all surfaces with a solvent to remove any possible contaminants.

C. Apply two or three medium to light coats of paint. Allow two or three minutes

ash o between coats.

D. Allow paint to cure adequately. Consult with your paint manufacturer for proper

cure time and hardness prior to testing the paint for adhesion. Air dry enamels

may require signicantly longer cure times over some powders.

2. Paints to use: Various types of paint exhibit greater adhesion qualities than others

when applied over polyester powder. Below is a list of nishes that exhibit very good

adhesion properties.

• Two-component epoxies

• Some two-component polyurethanes

• Alkyd baking enamels

- To avoid discoloration of alkyd nishes do not bake at temperatures

exceeding 150°F.

NOTICE: Always test the repainting process on an inconspicuous area prior to use.
