Operating Instructions
Cutting coaxial cable
1.Pull the handles apart to place the tool in the open position.
2.With the tool in the open position, place the cable between
the cutting knives.
Note: make sure the cable is perpendicular to the cutting
knives to ensure a straight cut.
3.Carefully squeeze the handles together until the cable is cut
into two pieces.
Stripping coaxial cable
1.Prior to stripping the coaxial cable, refer to the connec-
tor manufacturer’s instructions to verify this procedure
matches the connector for which you are preparing the
cable. Klein tools family of coaxial cable strippers follows
SCTE specifications.
2.First measure the cable 3/8" back from the end.
Note: there is a stripping length gauge located on the tool.
3.Place the tool in the open position and place the cable
perpendicular to the center-conductor cutting knives.
4.Carefully squeeze the handles together while rotating the
tool back and forth in a circular motion.
5.Once the handles have met the positive stop, pull gently
on the cable. This will remove the insulation layers (outer
jacket, foil/braid and inner dielectric), exposing 3/8" of
center conductor.
6.Measure the cable 1/4" from the exposed center conductor.
7.Place the tool in the open position and place the cable
perpendicular to the appropriate diamond-shaped cutting
knives (RG6 or RG59 depending on the cable type).
8.Carefully squeeze the handles together while rotating the
tool back and forth in a circular motion.
9.Once the handles have met the positive stop, pull gently
on the cable. This will remove the outer insulation layer,
exposing the braid/foil layer.
Preparing the cable for crimping
1.Assemble the connector to prepared cable end, per the
connector manufacturer’s instructions.
2.Fold the braided shielding back over the outer jacket to
reveal the foil layer on the dielectric center insulation.
3.Place the connector onto the cable and carefully push the
center conductor and foil coated dielectric through the
opening in the connector. Push until the cable is completely
seated in the connector and the center conductor extends
approximately 1/8" beyond the connector. The inner sleeve
of the connector should slide over the foil coated inner
dielectric and between the foil and the wire braid.
4.The cable is now ready to be crimped.
Crimping the connector to the cable
1.With the tool in the open position, place the cable/
connector assembly into the appropriate die nest.
2.To compress the connector, carefully squeeze the handles
together.
Note: the jaws have a positive stop to prevent over-
crimping. Steps 1 and 2 may need to be repeated
several times over the length of the connector to ensure
a comprehensive crimp.
3.When the crimp is complete, open the tool.
4.
Remove the crimped cable/connector assembly
from the tool.
5.Test the connector/cable assembly to verify the
connection.
