Introducon
The Boot Software (BSW) is a generic boot software for ARM SAMV71Q21RT and SAMRH71F20 microcontrollers,
developed in compliance with European Space Agency (ESA) SAVOIR (For more information, see
SAVOIR-GS-002,
SAVOIR Flight Computer Initialisation Sequence Generic Specication
) requirements and structured according
to service oriented architecture dened by PUS-C standard (For more information, see
ECSS-E-ST-70-41C, ECSS
- Space engineering Telemetry and Telecommand Packet Utilization
). The BSW meets ECSS Criticality Category
B requirements (For more information, see
ECSS-E-ST-40C, ECSS – Space engineering Software
and
ECSS-Q-
ST-80C, ECSS – Space Product Assurance Software Product Assurance
) and it data pack includes a qualication
test suite.

Its purpose is to:
• Initialize the processor and its peripherals
• Perform low-level self-tests of the microcontroller’s hardware modules
• Boot the application software (ASW)
• Enable maintenance of the ASW
• Enable post-mortem investigations of the ASW

After processor power-up, the BSW is executed from a non-volatile internal ash memory of the
microcontroller. After the low-level processor module initialization, the data section of the BSW is copied to
the internal SRAM memory. In nominal conditions, when no crash of the previous execution is detected and an
external operating entity does not request a switch to the Standby state, the BSW executes all self-tests, veries
the selected ASW image in ash memory, copies the ASW image from ash to selected volatile memory, veries
the ASW image in that memory and starts ASW execution. In case of the ASW image verication failure, the
BSW is capable of performing selection from other available ASW images – the details of the BSW behaviour
regarding that selection are congurable.
The BSW Standby state supports patching user provided ASW and reconguration of the BSW itself.
The BSW should not be updatable in ight by any means.
The BSW allows for various mission specic tailorings (including used TC/TM link, supported non-volatile and
volatile memories, messages identiers, set of self-tests, and so on).
The ASW has the possibility to access memory used by BSW to store data (including Boot Report containing
results of self-tests, boot reason and so on). The BSW does not depend on any data, features or interfaces of
the ASW.
The BSW provides PUS-C compatible TC/TM interface over UART or SpaceWire link (SpW option available on
SAMRH71 only).
The following PUS-C services are supported:
• ST[01] - Verication
• ST[03] - Housekeeping
• ST[05] - Events
• ST[06] - Memory management
• ST[09] - Time synchronization (custom subservice)
• ST[17] - Connection test
• ST[20] - Parameter management
• MS[128]- BSW State management (custom service)
