PotentiallyExplosive Atmospheres
Turn offyour radio prior to entering any area witha potentially explosive
atmosphere.Only radio types thatare especially qualified should be
used in suchareas as “Intrinsically Safe.” Do notremove, install or
charge batteries in such areas.Sparks in apotentiallyexplosive
atmosphere cancause anexplosionorfire resultinginbodily injury or
even death.
Note: The areas withpotentially explosiveatmospheres referred to
aboveinclude fueling areas such as below decks onboats, fuel or
chemicaltransfer orstorage facilities, areas where the aircontains
chemicals or particles (suchas grain, dustor metal powders) and any
other area where you would normallybe advisedtoturnoffyourvehicle
engine. Areas withpotentially explosive atmospheres are often—butnot
always—posted.
Blasting Caps andAreas
To avoid possibleinterference with blasting operations, turnoff your
radio when you are near electrical blastingcaps, in a blasting area, or in
areas posted “Turn offtwo-way radios.” Obey all signs andinstructions.
Operational Cautions
Antennas
Donot use anyportable radio that has adamaged antenna. Ifa damaged
antenna comes into contactwithyour skin, aminor burncanresult.
Batteries
All batteriescancause propertydamage and/or bodily injury suchas
burnsifaconductive material—like jewelry, keys orbeadedchains—
t ouch exposed terminals. The conductive materialmay complete an
electricalcircuit(shortcircuit)andbecome quite hot. Exercise care in
handling any charged battery, particularly whenplacingit inside a
pocket, purse or other container with metal objects.
Exercise care when removing NiMH orAAA batteries. Donotuse sharp
orconductive tools toremove eitherofthese batteries.

interference (EMI) ifinadequately shielded, designed orotherwise
configured for electromagneticcompatibility. This devicecomplies with
Part15 of the FCC Rules. Operationis subject to the following two
conditions:
1.Thisdevice maynotcause harmfulinterference; and
2.Thisdevice mustacceptanyinterference received,including
interference thatmaycause undesired operation.
Facilities
To avoidelectromagneticinterferenceand/orcompatibilityconflicts,
turn offyour radio inany facility where posted notices instructyou to
do so. Hospitals or healthcare facilities may be using equipmentthatis
sensitive toexternalRF energy.
Aircraft
When instructed to do so, turnoff your radio when onboard onaircraft.
Anyuse ofa radiomustbe in accordance withapplicable regulations
per airline crew instructions.
MedicalDevices – Pacemakers
TheAdvancedMedical Technology Associationrecommendsthata
minimumseparationof6 inches (15 cm) be maintained between a
handheld wireless radio and a pacemaker. These recommendations are
consistentwith the independentresearch by and recommendations of
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
People withpacemakers should:
ALWAYS keep the radio more than6inches (15 cm) fromtheir
pacemaker when the radio is turned ON.
Notcarrythe radiointhe breastpocket.
Use the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the potential for
interference.
Turn the radio OFF immediately if there is any reason to suspect that
interference is takingplace.
MedicalDevices – Hearing Aids
Some digital wireless radios mayinterfere withsome hearing aids. In
theevent of such interference, you may want to consult your hearing
aid manufacturer to discuss alternatives.
MedicalDevices - Other
Ifyou use any other personal medical device, consult the manufacturer
ofyour device to determine ifitis adequately shieldedfromRFenergy.
Your physicianmay be ableto assist you inobtaining this information.
SafetyandGeneralUse WhileDriving

Pull off the road and park before making or answering a call ifdriving
conditions so require.
The use of a two-way radio while engaged in activities requiring
concentration may cause distraction or otherwise impair your ability to
safely participate in suchactivities. Always usetechnology safely.
Do not placea portable radio in thearea over an air bag or inthe air
bagdeploymentarea. Air bags inflate withgreatforce. Ifaportable
radio is placed in the air bag deploymentarea and the air bag inflates,
the radio maybe propelledwithgreatforce andcause serious injury to
occupants ofthe vehicle.
