Where to locate

Installation

Forminimum protection, smoke alarms should be installed in

every bedroom, children'sroom andhallway. Inhabitable

attics, a smokealarm should beinstalled abovethe stairs.

The alarmsound mustbeloud enough towakesleeping

residentsin the case of fire.

In the case of open connections between floors,one smoke

alarm should beinstalled on each level.

Smoke alarmsmust be installedontheceiling,asclose tothe

center ofthe ceilingaspossible. Theminimum distanceto

walls,lightfittings,electrical wiringsandapplilances,beams,

and furniture must be 50cm.

In rooms where the ceilinghas a slope of > 20°,"dead"airat

the peakof the ceilingmay prevent the smoke fromrising.

Therefore inthese rooms,the smokealarmsmustbeinstalled

min. 0.5 mandmax. 1 m fromthe peak of the ceiling. Ceilings

withan inclination of20°should be regardedas horizontal

ceilings.

In L-shaped rooms, thesmokealarm should beinstalled at the

mitreline(see diagram).Inlarge L-shapedrooms,eachside

of the room should be regarded as a separate room.

The maximuminstallationheight of asmoke alarm shouldnot

exceed 6m.

Rooms that are separated bypartition walls, beams, or

furniture,should be protected by a smoke alarm in each part of

theroom.

Ifthe roomislargerthan60m²,theinstallationofadditional

smokealarmsisnecessary.

Inhallwayswith amaximumbreadthof3m, thedistance

between twosmoke alarmsmust notexceed15m.The

distance ofasmoke alarm tothe end wallmustnot exceed

7.5m. Ineachintersection, junction,andcornerofahallway,

theremustbeonesmokealarm(mitreline).

The smokealarm shouldbe easilyaccessible to carryout

cleaning and testing.

If a building is too complicated or too large,please contact a security expert or the firedepartment.

On thewallor near doors,windows, openings in theceiling,fansetc., where draftsmayblowaway smoke

or cause false alarms.

In areas where thetemperatures are regularly below 0°Cor above 55°C.

In high humidity areas (e.g.bathroom).

In small or poorly ventilated garagesor kitchens,whereexhaust fumesor steam may cause false alarms.

In insect-infected areas.

In placeswhere youcannot easily access the smoke alarm for testing and cleaning.

In areaswhere aircirculationmaycause false alarms, e.g.in staircases outside theapartments (in

apartmenthouses).

Near light fittings or electrical wiring and appliances.

Near extremely bright light sources or direct sunlight.

In areaswhere dustordirtmayimpairthe functionof thesmoke alarmorcause falsealarms (e.g.

workshops or barns).

In areas where heavy cigarettesmoke can be expected.

Near openfireplaces,ovens,stoves etc.(minimum distance 4m).

This smoke alarm detects smokefrom smoldering fires at an early stage andwarns with a loud pulsating alarm

(85dBA/3m).Itisdesigned forthe usein privatehouseholdsandhabitable recreationalvehiclesandisnot

approved forpublic,industrial orcommercial buildings.Thefieldsofoperation ofsmokealarms are described

inDIN 14676.Inthecase offire, smoke alarmscan onlygive alarm,ifthesmoke reachesthem. Everything

that preventsthesmoke fromentering the smokealarm'shousing may delayor even preventthealarm.A fire

in another room,floor, or areaof the homewillonly be reportedwhenthesmoke reachesthesmoke alarm. For

this reason, youshould installa smokealarm in everyroom -at leastone oneach floor,observe theminimum

protection accordingtoyourlocallegislation.Smokealarmsarenosubstitute fora property orlife insurance.

Appropriate coverageis your responsibility. This smoke alarm is not suitable for deaf persons.

Contaminationof the smokealarm bydust ordirt may leadto falsealarms. Ifthedirtcannot beremovedfrom

outside as described inthe chapter "Maintenance/Cleaning", theunit has to be replacedby a newone. There is

no warrantyfor dirtyunits. Thissmoke alarmisequipped witha built-innon-exchangeablebatteryand hasto

bereplacedafter 10yearsof operationatthe latest.Areliableearlywarning offireand smokeisonly given,if

this smokealarm is used according to theseinstructions.
