Intended use
The AcuCare HFNC (high flow nasal
cannula) system is intended to provide
high flow therapy for patients >30kg
who would benefit from receiving
high flow warmed and humidified
respiratory gases. The AcuCare HFNC
is intended for use in patients with
acute respiratory failure or non-acute
spontaneously breathing patients in
the hospital/clinical environment, or
for non-acute spontaneously breathing
patients in the home. The AcuCare
HFNC is designed to deliver air, with or
without oxygen, up to a maximum flow
of 60l/min. The AcuCare HFNC is for
single-patient use (maximum 7 days)
in the hospital/clinical environment,
and is for single-patient use (maximum
30days) in the home environment.
Contraindications
High flow oxygen therapy may generate
some positive airway pressure.
Contraindications for positive airway
pressure devices apply: pneumothorax,
pathologically low blood pressure,
cerebrospinal fluid leak, recent cranial
surgery or trauma, severe bullous lung
disease, dehydration.
GENERAL WARNINGS
• Single patient reuse only.
Maximum 7 days reuse in the
hospital/clinical environment,
30 days reuse in the home
environment if cleaning
instructions are followed.
• Only use in approved
configurations.
• Check for condensation regularly.
Drain as required.
• Oxygen supports combustion.
Donot use in the presence of an
open flame.
• Do not use if components are
damaged.
• Risk of minor nasal mucosa irritation
and minor bleeding due to gas flow
and mechanical contact.
CAUTION
• Before connecting the nasal
cannula check for adequate gas
flow, oxygen and temperature.
• Ensure the nasal cannula is sized
correctly and does not seal nares.
• Do not crush or stretch tubing.
• Always follow cleaning
instructions. Some cleaning
products may damage the cannula,
its parts and their function,
orleave harmful residual vapours.
Cleaning your cannula at
home
If there is any visible deterioration of the
cannula (cracking, crazing, tears etc.)
the product should be discarded and
replaced.
Weekly:
1. Soak the cannula in warm water with
a mild liquid detergent.
2. Hand wash the cannula with a soft
bristle brush.
3. Thoroughly rinse the cannula under
running water.
4. Leave the cannula to air dry out of
direct sunlight.
If the cannula is not visibly clean, repeat
the cleaning steps.
