transientresponse.Theadjustmentterminalcanbe

bypassedtoachieveveryhighripplerejectionratios

whicharedifficulttoachievewithstandard3-terminal

regulators.

Besidesreplacingfixedregulators,theLM117is

usefulinawidevarietyofotherapplications.Since

theregulatoris"floating"andseesonlytheinput-to-

outputdifferentialvoltage,suppliesofseveral

hundredvoltscanberegulatedaslongasthe

maximuminputtooutputdifferentialisnotexceeded,

i.e.,avoidshort-circuitingtheoutput.

Also,itmakesanespeciallysimpleadjustable

switchingregulator,aprogrammableoutputregulator,

orbyconnectingafixedresistorbetweenthe

adjustmentpinandoutput,theLM117canbeused

asaprecisioncurrentregulator.Supplieswith

electronicshutdowncanbeachievedbyclampingthe

adjustmentterminaltogroundwhichprogramsthe

outputto1.2Vwheremostloadsdrawlittlecurrent.
