WARNING - WHEN USING AN ELECTRICAL
PRODUCT, BASIC PRECAUTIONS SHOULD ALWAYS
BE FOLLOWED TO AVOID ELECTRIC SHOCK,
FIRE, AND/OR SERIOUS INJURY, INCLUDING THE
FOLLOWING:
• Operate cleaner only at voltage specified on
data plate on bottom of cleaner.
• Do not leave appliance when plugged in. Unplug
from outlet when not in use and before cleaning
or servicing.
• Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
• Do not allow to be used as a toy. Not intended
for use by children age 12 and under. Close
supervision is necessary when used by or
near children. To avoid injury or damage, keep
children away from product, and do not allow
children to place fingers or other objects into
any openings.
• Use only as described in this user’s manual.
Use only Dirt Devil® recommended attachments.
• Do not use product with damaged cord or
plug. If product is not working as it should,
has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or
dropped into water, call customer service at
1-800-321-1134 prior to continuing use.
• Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a
handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around
sharp edges or corners. Do not place product on
cord. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord
away from heated surfaces.
• Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug,
grasp the plug, not the cord.
• Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands.
• Do not put any object into openings. Do not use
with any opening blocked; keep free of dust,
lint, hair, and anything that may reduce air flow.
• Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts
of body away from openings and moving parts.
• Turn o all controls before unplugging.
• Use extra care when cleaning on stairs. To
avoid personal injury or damage, and to prevent
the cleaner from falling, always place cleaner
at bottom of stairs or on floor. Do not place
cleaner on stairs or furniture, as it may result in
injury or damage.
• Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible
liquids, such as gasoline, or fine wood sandings,
or use in areas where they may be present.
• Always turn o this appliance before
connecting or disconnecting either Hose or
motorized Nozzle.
• Hold plug when rewinding onto cord reel. Do not
allow plug to whip when rewinding.
• Do not pick up anything that is burning or
smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot
ashes.
• Do not use without Dirt Cup and / or Filters in
place.
• Put product away after use to prevent tripping
accidents.
CAUTION - TO REDUCE THE RISK OF
DAMAGE:
• Avoid picking up hard, sharp objects with this
product, as they may cause damage.
• Store appropriately indoors in a dry place. Do
not expose machine to freezing temperatures.
• Do not use sharp objects to clean out Hose as
they can cause damage.
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF
ELECTRIC SHOCK, THIS APPLIANCE HAS A
POLARIZED PLUG (ONE BLADE IS WIDER
THAN THE OTHER). THIS PLUG WILL FIT IN A
POLARIZED OUTLET ONLY ONE WAY. IF THE
PLUG DOES NOT FIT FULLY IN THE OUTLET,
REVERSE THE PLUG. IF IT STILL DOES NOT
FIT, CONTACT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN
TO INSTALL THE PROPER OUTLET. DO NOT
CHANGE THE PLUG IN ANY WAY.
An internal thermal protector has been
designed into your cleaner to protect it from
overheating. When the thermal protector
activates, the cleaner will stop running. If this
happens, proceed as follows:
1. Turn cleaner OFF and disconnect it from
the electrical outlet.
2. Empty dirt cup.
3. Inspect the nozzle and bag inlet openings
for any obstructions. Clear obstructions
if present.
4. When the cleaner is unplugged and the
motor cools for 30 minutes, the thermal
protector will deactivate and cleaning may
continue.
If the thermal protector continues to activate
after following the above steps, your cleaner
may need servicing.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE
Fully assemble or install product prior to use.
WARNING: to reduce the risk of injury from
moving parts - unplug before servicing.
HOSE INSTALLATION
AND REMOVAL / ATTACH TOOLS
1.
Insert the hose connector into the hose inlet until
it clips securely into position. (To remove the
vacuum hose from the vacuum cleaner, press the
fitting hooks then pull outwards.)
2.
Adjust the length of the suction tube by attaching
or detaching the one-piece metal wand. When
attaching the one-piece metal wand, connect one
extension tube into the other. Firmly press each
extension tube together once they are connected.
3.
Attach the end of the suction tube to the hose
handle of the vacuum hose.
4.
Choose any of the accessories to meet your var-
ious cleaning needs. Then simply push it firmly
onto the hose or wand end.

CONTROLLING SUCTION POWER
Suction power can be adjusted using the Handle
Suction Control. Close for full suction, or open for
reduced suction.
CORD RELEASE / REWIND
CAUTION: Pull out cord to the maximum
length indicated with the yellow mark. Never
pull the cable out to the red mark as the cable
winding mechanism can be damaged.
CORD
1.
To release cord, pull outward from storage
location. Do not pull out past the red tape.
2.
To return cord to storage, hold the plug and press
down on the cord release button. Do not allow
cord to whip when rewinding.
DIRT CUP & FILTER:
REMOVAL &
REPLACEMENT
WARNING: to reduce the risk of injury from
moving parts - unplug before servicing.
CAUTION: To obtain the best result from
your cleaner, the dirt cup needs to be emptied
regularly, otherwise shallow airflow and
cleaning power will be reduced. When collected
dust reaches the “MAX” level marked on the
Dirt Cup and performance deteriorates, it is
necessary to clean the Dirt Cup. Always check
if there are any blockages in the accessories or
hoses and follow the filter cleaning instructions
for optimum performance.
NOTE: Unplug cleaner before changing filter.
NOTE: Rinse foam filter once every month. If the
vacuum is used frequently, the filter may require
more frequent cleaning.
NOTE: For best performance, replace the pleated
filter every 6 months.
DIRT CUP REMOVAL / EMPTY DIRT CUP
A
1.
Unplug the cleaner. Carefully remove the dirt cup
by pressing the lock release button (A).

Hold Dirt Cup over wastebasket and push the Dirt
Cup Release Button (B) to empty.
REMOVE, RINSE AND REPLACE FILTER
1.
Pull up on lid release latch to access filter.
2.
Grasp the filter and remove from Dirt Cup.

3.
Hold Filter under running water to rinse. DO NOT
use soap/detergent. Allow filter to COMPLETELY
DRY for at least 24 hours.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT REASSEMBLE FILTER
ASSEMBLY UNTIL FILTER HAS COMPLETELY DRIED.
4.
Replace dry filter back into the unit in the same
way they were removed.
DO NOT REASSEMBLE UNTIL FILTER IS COMPLETELY
DRIED.
CLEAN EXHAUST FILTER
IMPORTANT: DO NOT RINSE OR WASH THE FILTER
MADE WITH HEPA MEDIA.
1.
Push the button on the back panel to the left to
access the HEPA Media Filter.
2.
Grab the filter and remove from the vacuum.
3.
Gently tap the filter on the inside of a trash
receptacle to remove dust and dirt. Place filter
back into wheel and replace filter wheel cover.
STORAGE
BEFORE STORING CLEANER:
1. Turn unit o.
2. Unplug and press automatic cord rewind
button.
3. Collapse extension wand and place parking
hook on back of nozzle onto the parking
bracket.
